DC17 encompasses a proud legacy of skilled trades representation across the Canadian Prairies. IUPAT Local 177, formed in 1993 through the merger of Local 583 (Calgary Painters, established 1906), Local 1016 (Edmonton Painters and Glaziers, established 1904), and Local 1725 (Calgary Glaziers, established 1950), has served Alberta's painters and allied trades for over a century.
In Manitoba, Local 739 has represented workers since 1902, merging with Local 1996 (SK) in 1996 while Local 1960, which represents vehicle workers at Maxim Truck & Trailer in Regina, maintains its own governance.
Together, these locals advocate for the rights and interests of painters, glaziers, glassworkers, floor coverers, hazardous workers, sign workers, and allied trades across the region.

Real Stories.
Real Solidarity.
A Members Perspective.
CBE Glazing Shop Steward: Nicholas Harder
“Unity is our strength.”
With these words, Nicholas delivered a powerful message to the Calgary Board of Education - one that reflects the core values of our Union.
Nicholas spoke not only on behalf of himself, but for every member who contributes skill, pride, and commitment to building stronger communities. His perspective is a reminder that our greatest strength comes from standing together, supporting one another, and advocating for fairness and respect on the job.
We are proud of Nicholas, proud of his leadership, and proud of the work our members do every day. His voice reflects the solidarity that drives us forward.
