Sam El-Tassi

Director of Organizing

Phone: 780-297-3509

Email: seltassi@dc17.ca

Sam began his career running his own business outfitting fleet accessories and installing remote starters before moving into industrial painting. After gaining experience in both shop and field settings, he joined the IUPAT DC17 nearly six years ago. Starting as a Representative and Organizer, he now serves as Director of Organizing for District Council 17.

In his role, Sam focuses on helping members find steady employment, supporting community outreach initiatives, and building strong relationships with contractors across Alberta and the Prairies. One of his proudest achievements has been seeing members gain meaningful work opportunities through those efforts.

When asked what brought him to the Union, Sam shares that starting a young family made him look for a career that offered stability and growth — something the trades and the Union could provide. Encouraged by a fellow member to join, he’s since been driven to strengthen member involvement and expand opportunities for signatory contractors.

To Sam, the Union represents more than just collective bargaining—it’s about having each other’s backs and building an inclusive community that stands together.

“The Union gives working people a voice and the strength to build better lives for themselves and their families.”

Outside of work, Sam enjoys fishing, ice fishing, hunting, and camping year-round. He’s known for his loyalty to the membership and often says, “I can count on two hands the members who would have my back if anything ever happened to me or my family.”

“The Union gives workers a voice and access to the proper training they deserve.”

Fun fact: When he’s not on the job, Jason enjoys hitting the golf course.

DC17 Delegates and Local Executive Boards

Our Union is guided by the leadership of Local Executive Boards and the representation of elected Delegates.
