DC17 encompasses a proud legacy of skilled trades representation across the Canadian Prairies. IUPAT Local 177, formed in 1993 through the merger of Local 583 (Calgary Painters, established 1906), Local 1016 (Edmonton Painters and Glaziers, established 1904), and Local 1725 (Calgary Glaziers, established 1950), has served Alberta's painters and allied trades for over a century.
In Manitoba, Local 739 has represented workers since 1902, merging with Local 1996 (SK) in 1996 while Local 1960, which represents vehicle workers at Maxim Truck & Trailer in Regina, maintains its own governance.
Together, these locals advocate for the rights and interests of painters, glaziers, glassworkers, floor coverers, hazardous workers, sign workers, and allied trades across the region.
